Bird House Debut: Saturday & Sunday
March 24 & March 25

Join us for the public debut of our new Bird House residents! We're celebrating with two live bird showcases each day featuring the ivory-billed aracari and blue-headed macaw.

Mammal Monday
March 26

Spring has sprung! Come out of hibernation with us to celebrate Mammal Monday! Decorate a terra cotta ornament of your favorite urban mammal - choose from a rabbit, a squirrel, or a rat. For inspiration we'll have real specimens from our collection to look at as you craft your piece of art. Featuring our friends from Lillstreet Art Center.

Turtle Tuesday
March 27

We're marking this Turtle Tuesday with a morning full of fun in Mysteries of the Marsh. Join us for live animal feedings, additional critter connections, and a drop-by art activity celebrating these amazing reptiles.

Winged Wednesday
March 28

We're highlighting our newest Bird House residents with fun drop-by activities and two live bird showcases! First, learn how to dance like a bird! Our local Chicago birds do fancy dances to attract a mate, just like the birds-of-paradise in our featured exhibit. Then, learn about how different wing shapes help birds specialize in different flight techniques – and make a paper airplane to demonstrate your skills!

Suggested Donation Thursday
March 29

We're marking Thursday with two live animal shows featuring beautiful birds of prey! Featuring Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation, visitors will learn lots of cool facts about the physical characteristics that help hawks, owls, falcons, and vultures survive in the wild. Don't forget, Illinois residents can enjoy free admission as part of our Suggested Donation Thursdays.

Wild Critter Friday
March 30

Cap off the week with exotic reptiles and oddball mammals from Wildlife Discovery Center. Join us for the chance to see a menagerie of cool critters, including a two-toed sloth, a three-banded armadillo, an Aldabra tortoise, and more!

    Snakes, turtles, salamanders...more than 50 animal species reside in our lab. Get up close with one of our critters and learn about our animal friends that live at the Nature Museum.

  • Blanding's turtle

    Live Animal Feeding

    Every day
    1pm to 1:30pm

    Join us in Mysteries of the Marsh as our animal care staff and volunteers feed some of your favorite Nature Museum critters.

  • Rice Paper butterfly

    First Flight Butterfly Release

    Every day
    2pm to 2:30pm

    Join us every day at 2pm in the Judy Istock Butterfly Haven as we release newly emerged butterflies into the Haven for the first time! Watch as they take their first flight!
