    Winter Puppet Tales

    The Jabberwocky Marionettes present a charming puppet show celebrating the joys of winter! Snowflakes swirl and dance, a child plays in the snow, and a young fox kit discovers snowy hills and an icy pond. This walk through winter features delightful original music, and ends with a fantastical trip back home.

    Live Birds of Prey Animal Show: Raptor Adaptations

    Do you know why American Kestrels bob their heads during flight? Learn lots of cool facts about the physical characteristics that help hawks, owls, falcons, and vultures survive in the wild, with our friends at Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation. This is a great chance to get an up-close look at live birds of prey.

    Join our friends from the Lillstreet Art Center in celebrating our favorite local critters and the winter season through creative make-and-take art projects. Don't forget, Illinois residents can enjoy free admission as part of our Suggested Donation Thursdays.

    The Geology Puppet Show

    Sunday, December 30, 2018 
    11am to 12pm

    Join Jabberwocky Marionettes for a puppet journey through time! Imagine ancient earth: early rivers carving canyons, prehistoric creatures crawling, and other forces of nature shown with incredible theatric effects. Appropriate for all ages, The Geology Show was developed as part of the Chicago Park District’s Night Out In The Park series, touring to several different Chicago Parks in Summer, 2018.

    Head to Hands-On Habitat to listen to a story picked for our littlest visitors, and then keep the fun going with games and activities.

    Critter Connection

    12pm to 12:30pm

    Snakes, turtles, salamanders...more than 50 animal species reside in our lab. Get up close with one of our critters and learn about our animal friends that live at the Nature Museum.

  • Blanding's turtle

    Live Animal Feeding

    Every day
    1pm to 1:30pm

    Join us in Mysteries of the Marsh as our animal care staff and volunteers feed some of your favorite Nature Museum critters.

  • Rice Paper butterfly

    First Flight Butterfly Release

    Every day
    2pm to 2:30pm

    Join us every day at 2pm in the Judy Istock Butterfly Haven as we release newly emerged butterflies into the Haven for the first time! Watch as they take their first flight!
