    Butterfly Haven Yoga

    Description

    Join us for a rejuvenating class in the Judy Istock Butterfly Haven. Students will leave class feeling energized, balanced and ready to take their practice off the mat and out into the world. Mats not provided. Space is limited and registration required.

    Nature on Tap

    Adult & Teen

    Description

    Nature on Tap features adults-only access to the Nature Museum, including the Judy Istock Butterfly Haven. Highlights include a trivia game testing your knowledge with nature and science themed questions. The winning trivia team will receive the coveted Golden Cockroach trophy.

    Cost: Free for members, $10/non-members. Admission includes access to all exhibits, crafty projects and participation in the trivia challenge.

    The Chemistry of Honey

    Description

    Presented in partnership with the Illinois Science Council

    This sweet program will delight and enlighten you with what bees actually do to make honey, how it’s harvested and other fun facts. We’ve got ISC's resident rockin' chemist, Dr. Shelby Hatch of Northwestern University, who will lead you in experiments demonstrating the extraordinary chemical properties of honey and its many varieties.

    Taxidermy Workshop with Urban Ecologist Steve Sullivan

    Adult & Teen

    Description

    Join us for two intense evenings of taxidermy and learn fundamental techniques by mounting your own pigeon. We will address the history of this art form from early "stuffing" to modern "mounting" as pioneered by former Chicago resident, Carl Akeley. Attendance at both sessions (October 10 and 11) is necessary to complete your specimen. Respect for the specimens is expected; no chimeras or anthropomorphs will be allowed. All materials provided. Please contact the Nature Museum before bringing outside specimens or tools.

    Cost: $300. $75 of the fee is non-refundable.
