Frank W. Reilly Elementary School
The Department of Energy's Chicago Regional Office joined the City of Chicago, Chicago Public Schools, ComEd, Spire Solar Chicago, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Community Affairs, the IBEW Local 134, and others at the Frank W. Reilly School's "Solarbration," a celebration and dedication ceremony. The Frank W. Reilly School is one of the largest elementary schools in the City of Chicago and is the first of approximately 40 schools to receive a 10 kW PV system and renewable energy curriculum. The student-led celebration included songs, games, hands-on displays, science and business project exhibits, a solar sprint car race, and other activities. In addition, several universities from Illinois, Indiana, and Missouri exhibited their full-sized solar cars and bicycles. At the ribbon cutting ceremony, the Chicago Regional Office presented the school with a plaque recognizing them for their leadership and their contribution to the Million Solar Roofs Initiative.
