Biomagnification is the process in which the concentration of toxins and wastes increases as we move up the food chain. For example, if one larger bird eats ten smaller birds, the larger bird collects ten times the amount of toxins.

Toxins that are harmless to animals at the levels found in air and water can become deadly at biomagnified levels.
