Future Lawn

Located outdoors and in front of the museum, this living installation presents a range of lawn alternatives. Each was developed to be functional, attractive, low maintenance, and less resource hungry than traditional turf grass. Best of all, each features design elements you can try at home.

Native species abound. Food plants and medicinal herbs deliver edible benefits. Carefree groundcovers allow for picnics and play.

Explore all four sections: Traditional Lawn, Prairie Lawn, Shady Lawn and Far Out Lawn. And be sure to come back and see how they all develop over the summer.
