EDUCATION RESOURCES

The Chicago Academy of Sciences and its Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum is the city's first Museum dedicated to educating Chicago teachers and students about nature and science, providing hands-on educational programs for families, visitors, school children and teachers --both inside and outside the Museum walls.

In 2008, Museum educational programs reached 70,000 students and 1,700 teachers in over 430 schools in the Chicago area. Our educators taught more than 700 workshops to students visiting on field trips.

In-School Programs

The Nature Museum brings nationally recognized programs to you!

Science on the Go! is a state-of-the-art professional development program designed for Chicago Public School teachers.

Experience a field trip to the Notebaert Nature Museum in your own classroom! Program topics focus on nature and ecology and are taught by Museum educators with hands-on, inquiry based science.

Community Partnerships

Community partnerships enable the Nature Museum to take our programs into our city’s neighborhoods and bring residents here for special initiatives.

Our special thanks to The Brinson Foundation and The Albert Pick, Jr. Fund for their continued support of the Museum’s education programs.

The benches you see throughout the Nature Museum are comprised of 90% recycled plastic from soda bottles.  The steel frames contain a minimum of 25% recycled steel.  All materials are from local sources, saving fuel, too!
