SCIENCE FAIR IDEAS

Looking for a science project that will astonish your teachers and earn you a high grade? Here are a few ideas. And keep coming back to this page for more ideas as they become available.

AUDIO: MIKE CURRY ON RESEARCH

1. Boston Teachnet
Urban children apply Internet agricultural research to their container garden located high among downtown buildings. Helping plant and care for the rooftop school garden are local seniors whose folklore and wisdom enrich this experiment in cultivating classroom and community.

2. Schoolyards to Skylines
This lesson explores how a rooftop garden helps to lower the temperature of a
building, and therefore keep the people inside cooler. Using Chicago's City Hall as a case study, students will experiment with colors and plants and design their own rooftop garden.

3. Green your Lesson plans
Greening Schools is a joint effort of the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IL EPA) and the Illinois Waste Management and Research Center (WMRC). The purpose of the project is to help schools provide a safe and healthy environment that can save money, improve learning conditions, and increase efficiency. The project is also designed to provide teachers with standards-based tools to introduce the concepts of waste reduction and pollution prevention to students. This site offers different lesson plans designed to show children how to protect and care for the land through greening.
